Workplace Harassment Awareness: What ALL Employers Must Do
This seminar is intended for human resources professionals, business owners, managers, and front-line supervisors who have responsibility for understanding, recognizing, and addressing workplace harassment.
Speaker: Deborah Jeffries, SHRM-CP, PHR, CPC, serves as the Vice President for HR Answers, Inc.
Having an anti-harassment or sexual harassment policy is not enough. Employers remain at risk when managers and employees are not trained to recognize con-duct that may be perceived as harassment or that could create a hostile work en-vironment. Regular training on unlawful harassment prevention is also a key component of an employer’s ability to rely on important legal protections, including the affirma-tive defenses available under state and federal law.
In Oregon, training is not op-tional—it is a critical compliance responsibility under the Oregon Workplace Fairness Act. This one-hour, high-level session is designed to help employers understand their responsibilities under the Oregon Workplace Fairness Act and what is required to create and maintain an effective Workplace Harassment Awareness Program—whether you deliver that training internally or choose to partner with an experi-enced facilitator.
This program will cover:
•An overview of the Oregon Workplace Fairness Act, including employee rights and employer responsibilities (for all employers, regardless of size)
•Definitions of unlawful harassment, discrimination, unwelcome conduct, and retaliation
•Employer liability and risk exposure
•Policy requirements (yes—you must have one) and how to effectively communicate it
•Best practices for receiving and investigating complaints
Now more than ever, employers must take proactive steps to prevent harassment before it occurs. Supervisors must be trained to serve as role models, recognize concerning behavior early, and respond promptly and appropriately when issues arise. Employers must also maintain complaint procedures that are accessible, ef-fective, and free from retaliation.
Certificates will be provided to attendees.
